Cause of fire still under investigation
Police are investigating the cause of a fire that burned the home of CU students Wednesday morning.
At 4:50 a.m. on Wednesday Feb. 6, a single family home at 285 Seminole Drive in Boulder caught on fire.
Two CU students, three adults and two animals were inside the residence at the time of the fire and were woken by their fire alarm. No one inside the residence was harmed.
“Neighbors reported seeing smoke in the area around the Flatirons Athletic Club,” said Sarah Huntley, spokeswoman for Boulder police
The fire began to spread to the house directly north at 295 Seminole Drive, which was vacant at the time.
“At 4:56 a.m. Pridemark ambulances arrived at the scene along with the Boulder police,” Huntley said. “Then at 4:58 a.m. seven fire engines and four command staff members arrived.”
RTD was also present to offer firefighters a support vehicle from the cold weather.
CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard said the Office of Victims Assistance joined Boulder police to provide the students support with clothing, text book replacement, cell phones to contact their families and trauma counseling.
“The fire took 45 minutes to get under control and one hour to fully extinguish,” Huntley said. “It was difficult for firefighters to accomplish due to the slick and icy roads from the previous storm.”
There were no injuries reported and the damage to both houses is substantial.
“It was a heroic response by Boulder officials and the Office of Victims Assistance, which was also at the Gold Run fire last semester,” Hilliard said.
Police said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
