Another hearing date scheduled to evaluate Astin’s mental health
Kenton Drew Astin, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting CU freshman Michael Knorps on the first day of school, was found officially “incompetent to proceed” due to his psychiatric situation at a hearing Monday morning.
Astin’s hearing was pushed forward in October after Boulder County Judge John F. Stavely ordered a psychiatric evaluation to be conducted by a state mental hospital.
Astin was not present for his hearing, but his diagnosis was provided by the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, according to the County Clerk’s office.
A new court date was set for March 20, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Boulder County Justice Center. The review session will further examine Astin’s psychiatric situation.
Astin, was arrested on charges of first degree murder and first degree assault with a deadly weapon, for allegedly stabbing freshman finance major Michael Knorps, on the first day of classes at CU this semester.
Astin will continue to reside at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo until further instructed by the court.
