Artist strays from pop image by playing smaller venues
Mandy Moore is coming to the Fox Theatre this Friday to support her new album, “Wild Hope.”
The release of her fifth album follows after an already busy year for Moore, who starred in two big-budget comedies earlier this year and is also starring in the indie film, “Dedication” alongside Billy Crudup premiering in the fall. This is also her first album since 2003’s “Coverage”, and “Wild Hope” is also under new record label; The Firm.
Moore, who recorded the album in the forests of upstate New York, noted in article with MTV.com that she was excited to work for her new record label because she had more freedom to choose co-writers and material she was allowed to record.
“Wild Hope” was produced by former John Mayer producer John Alagia, and has a much more nostalgic feel compared to her previous, more upbeat pop songs.
Moore collaborated with a diverse group of artists including Rachel Yamagata (who is opening for Moore this Friday with Steven Stills), The Weepies and Chantal Kreviazuk.
“Why doesn’t everybody know their music and give it the attention that it deserves?” Moore said in an article with Blender Magazine, a contemporary music magazine. “That was also a reason for writing with some of these people.”
Although “Wild Hope” has received decent reviews, including being reader’s choice album in the August issue of Entertainment Weekly, the album’s sales were very modest and only reached number 30 on the Billboard Charts.
As a result of this and being out of the music industry for several years, Moore is playing mid-size venues on her upcoming tour.
Having drifted from her pop-star image, expect to see a more mature Moore during her performance.
Doors for the show open at 8:30 p.m. and for all ages. Tickets are still available for $23.
