Calm atmosphere and small portions cater to Boulder’s vegetarian needs
About a year ago, Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant opened near Pearl Street to quench Boulder’s thirst for healthy vegetarian food.
This tiny, beautifully decorated restaurant has a limited menu, and is only inexpensive during happy hour.
Leaf is decked out with teal walls, wrought-iron furniture and a fountain that drips down on the outside of the bathroom, which is conveniently located in the center of the restaurant.
The polite waiters were too laid-back and slow, but the pleasant atmosphere made up for the lack of good service.
The crunchy granola crowd flocks to this location on the weekends to enjoy drinks and appetizers. The delicious Trio of Hummus appetizer comes with roasted red pepper hummus, white bean herb hummus and black bean lentil hummus, as well as homemade pita bread. The small portions provide customers with an opportunity to try a variety of foods.
One of the more creative items on their menu is the seitan skewers. These grilled wheat-gluten soy products are soaked in a bere bere marinade and served with mango coulis and feta cheese. They taste like a chewy bean-flavored tofu. It is a unique dish, and a popular appetizer choice among customers.
