Devon Taylor gets in line to wrap up the seasons flicks
Here’s Campus Press staff writer Devon Taylor’s low-down on what’s coming to theaters this Fall.
September 21
Good Luck Chuck
Starring: Dane Cook and Jessica Alba
“Good Luck Chuck” is the story of Charlie (Dane Cook) a dentist who, as a child, received a hex from a gothic girl he refused to kiss during a game of spin the bottle. The curse makes him a good luck charm for women he sleeps with. These women find their true love in the next person they date after Charlie, while Charlie remains unable to find love. That is until the lovely, but clumsy Cam (Jessica Alba) comes into his life. Now Charlie must discover the secret to his curse, before he loses Cam to another man.
Cook is finally beginning to fill the shoes of an actor instead of just a funny guy. As long as he and Alba have good chemistry this is bound to be entertaining. Either way, this film will definitely provide a few laughs.

Resident Evil: Extinction
Starring: Milla Jovovich and Mike Epps
In the third installment of the Resident Evil series, Alice (Milla Jovovich) bands together with other survivors of the T-Virus (a disease created by the Umbrella Corporation that turns all those infected into zombies) in the fight to take down Umbrella and save what’s left of the human race in this post-apocalyptic Earth.
Like other Resident Evil films, this movie won’t have the best plot or acting, but the special effects alone will be enough to attract viewers. Although this looks like one more of a long string of poor third installments to trilogies, between the special effects, Jovovich and a scantily clad Ali Larter, this film might still be worth the eight bucks.

Into the Wild
Starring: Emile Hirsch and Vince Vaughn
“Into the Wild,” directed by Sean Penn, is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) who, after college, gives his entire life savings to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska seeking wilderness and adventure. Along the way, he meets several colorful characters including Wayne Westerberger (Vince Vaughn).
Sean Penn is a brilliant director, and this film will back up that claim. It has a great cast including the up-and-coming Hirsch with a great coming-of-age story that might even draw some tears.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Starring: Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck
This western follows the notorious Jesse James (Brad Pitt) as he plans his next great heist, while betrayal lurks behind the scenes.
Finally, Pitt stars in another action film. Director Andrew Dominik creates a very compelling take on the popular Jesse James character. Look for good performances by Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell as well.

September 28
The Kingdom
Starring: Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner
This fast-paced thriller follows the story of FBI agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx), and his special-forces team infiltrating a Saudi Arabian crime scene after an attack on American forces in Riyadh.
“The Kingdom” looks like a contemporary “Black Hawk Down.” It will be interesting to see how Garner does after her sabbatical from Hollywood to have her child. Don’t be surprised if there are tons of underlying political themes.

October 5
The Heartbreak Kid
Starring: Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan
Eddie (Ben Stiller), marries a woman he’s only known for one week only to realize she is different than she seems. While dealing with his suddenly odd wife, Eddie meets the woman he should have married.
Look, things for Stiller’s characters just aren’t going his way. Sounds like “Along Came Polly” or “There’s Something About Mary” or “Meet the Parents”, etc. What else is there to say, it’s going to be a good movie.
