Where to shop for your back to school needs
It is that special time again: A new school year at CU. And with the academic calendar fresh, everyone is ready to buy some new stuff. With back-to-school sales all over Boulder, The Campus Press has suggested some great places for students to shop.
It’s said that the clothes make the person, and in Boulder that adage seems especially true. Here on campus, the new class of freshmen is probably feasting its eyes on styles that may be as foreign as they are fashionable. Here are a couple of shops that might have the special duds to make your wardrobe complete.
– Macy’s, 1900 28th St., Boulder. “Nice looking discount stuff,” said Stirling Wade, sports section editor.
– Marshalls, 1875 28th St., Boulder; Ross, 2972 Iris Ave., Boulder; T.J. Maxx, 510 Marshall Rd., Superior. “These stores are great to get the random stuff that you find out you need,” said Lauren Friedman, entertainment section editor.
– Recreational Equipment Inc., 1789 28th St., Boulder. “The winter in Boulder can be brutal, and REI provides a cache of armament against the elements,” said Tim McAvoy, copy editor.
With the new school year comes the need for books as well as school supplies. Of course, the CU Book Store is one place to get those books, pencils and notebooks. However, it is certainly not the only alternative. Here are a few the staff has recommended.
– Office Depot, 1905 28th St., Boulder. “It’s cheaper than the bookstore. I only spent $25 on school supplies for this semester,” Friedman said.
– Amazon.com. “Since freshman year, I have never bought a textbook from the CU Bookstore. I’ve always been able to find my books at Amazon, and I’ve saved a ton of money,” said Cassie Hewlings, news section editor.
After moving to your dorm with the help of a moving company or getting a penske truck rental, setting up the dorm room or finding furniture for the new place is another necessity many students are facing. You can get residential movers to help you move in the furniture that you currently have. And f you need innovative storage solutions, you may contact Boombox Storage for more info. The following are some suggestions our staff has given to make life a little easier if you’re starting from scratch.
– McGuckin Hardware, 2525 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder. “It’s independently owned and it has tools, plants, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies, lamps, desks and more,” said Jenny Bergen, copy editor.
– Cost Plus World Market, 1685 28th St., Boulder. “This store is great to get your kitchen set up for cheap. Everything is good quality and reasonably priced,” Friedman said.
– Target, 2800 Pearl St., Boulder. “I wish it weren’t so, but my entire desk collection is furnished from Target,” Hewlings said.
