G.O.R.D founder and ROTC among honorees
The CU Gold program commended student leaders Wednesday night with certificates and awards for their achievements.
In a two-hour ceremony in the UMC, awards for emerging leader on campus, outstanding student voice, lasting legacy award, student organization of the year and supporting staff member of the year were presented.
CU Gold is a leadership program dedicated to developing CU student leaders. Students go through training in classes, community service and workshops to assist them in leadership skills and networking.
The award for outstanding student voice went to Jack Gilles, a senior physics major and leader in the Guidelines and Objectives on Responsible Drinking program. Gilles helped in founding the G.O.R.D program in memory of his fraternity brother, Gordon Bailey, who died of alcohol poisoning in fall 2004.
Senior civil engineering master’s candidate Kymberly Haley took home the lasting legacy award. Presenters of this award said she truly made her mark on CU. Haley was chosen because of her service as a mentor and inspiration to classmates.
The Air Force ROTC Detachment 105 was awarded the student organization of the year award. Presenters said ROTC 105 represented a positive change here on campus.
The CU Gold advisory board commended their faculty members by presenting faculty advisor Mark Schwartz with the supporting staff member of the year award. Other candidates for this award included Ron Stump, vice chancellor of student affairs.
