Two seniors hand off company to locals
The torch, or rather the ice, has been passed on. After owning the company for two and a half years, Boulder Ice Luge owners Peter Tanoury and Ryan Doremus, both seniors, are handing their company over. Sophomores Ben Kaufman, an open-option major, and Robert Shiver, a business major, will take ownership and plan on maintaining party excellence as the company’s new owners.
For the current owners, their main focus was to find new owners who were locals of the city.
“We had a lot of offers from different people, but we wanted to sell it to someone local,” said Tanoury, a marketing major.
Doremus, an architecture major, admits that owning Boulder Ice Luge was a lot of fun but more importantly, he looks at it as a learning experience.
“Boulder Ice Luge was great because I learned about business,” Doremus said.
Purchasing Boulder Ice Luge is a side project for party-man Kaufman. As spearhead of 4/21 Activist Productions, he thought that taking over Boulder Ice Luge would amplify the atmosphere at future parties.
4/21 Activist Productions is a company that organizes fundraising parties for nonprofit organizations. The company name was inspired by student protests during 4/20 of last year.
“4/20 was great because is was a bunch of kids showing an act of defiance, blatantly doing something illegal in front of authority. I figured we should all be honest and extend ourselves to protest about something more, considering everything that is going on these days,” Kaufman said.
It was an easy decision for Shiver and Kaufman to make, Boulder Ice Luge has proven to be a lucrative business and it will help them in advancing their cause.
4/21’s latest endeavor will be hosting a party that will help pay for the medical bills of a friend without insurance who recently got hit by a car.
