Show runs for two busy shows
The talents of the students in the dance program are coming together from April 20 to 22 for the Student Dance Concert.
The annual concert is comprised of 10 original pieces featuring modern dance, ballet, performance art, Irish step, lyrical and jazz. Each performance includes an all student cast. Even the choreography is done by various graduate and undergraduate students.
The performances will incorporate props, text and other theatrical elements. One piece will feature a “live feed” which is when “a camera is used to video the dancers live and then project that actual image while the live performance occurs simultaneously,” said Marissa Hallo, a modern dance instructor at CU and a participant in the concert in an e-mail.
Hallo’s piece is inspired by various occurrences around campus.
“The students in my piece did some observations, note-taking and ‘experiments’ on campus focusing on student interactions. They looked at eye contact, body language and patterns of movement,” Hallo said.
Hallo’s piece is a portrayal of how students tend to ignore each other. She used props like cell phones and iPods to show how people constantly distract themselves.
The Student Dance Concert is anticipated to be a major success. People are welcome to attend on Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for the public.
