A CU freshman was arrested Wednesday after barging into a Buckingham Hall dorm room and threatening students with a knife.
Police said Daniel Charles Otero, 18, then lead officers on a foot chase across campus.
Otero was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felony menacing, criminal mischief, marijuana possession and underage alcohol consumption. He was still incarcerated as of Thursday and was being held on a $10,000 bond at the Boulder County Jail.
Otero appears to have chosen the room at random – the residents did not know Otero, and according to witness reports, he was apparently intoxicated when he entered the unlocked dorm room around midnight yelling incoherently. He dropped a wallet, hat and knife on the floor of the room during a scuffle as residents forced him out of the room.
He later opened the knife blade and threatened the residents, according to officers who made the arrest.
Otero will not be allowed to return to the residence hall and will be referred to CU Judicial Affairs for further investigation.
