Staff writer Emilie Johnson breaks down your best radio bets for a westbound road trip
In the current age of iPods and CDs, traditional radios are used less.
Spring break gives students road-tripping to exciting destinations a chance to venture onto the airwaves. Here are a few stations to check out on the way to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Station formats range from college to mainstream, and there is a little bit of something for everyone when it comes to musical content.
Power 91-KSUU-91.1 FM-Utah
This is the radio station for Southern Utah University. Located on SUU’s campus, this station brings listeners great “alternative mainstream music,” said Cal Rollins, station manager of Power 91. With a broadcasting range of 50 miles, listeners are sure to get a strong signal. Call (435) 586-7975 to make a request.
My 99.5-KJMY-99.5 FM-Utah
This station has all of today’s hits and favorites from the past. The only bummer about this station is there are no DJs to be “the voice between the records.”
Star-KSTJ-102.7 FM-Las Vegas
The ’80s are alive and kicking on this station. Listeners should stay tuned because this station also digs into the ’90s for some of its music. From all of Madonna’s crazes to all of Gwen Stefani’s stages, there is a large range of music. The request line is open at (702) 597-1027.
Indie 103-KDLE-103.1 FM-Los Angeles
Indie103 shatters the airwaves of Los Angeles by offering a variety of great shows like “The Indie Morning Show,” where host Joe Escalante brings music to the listeners. Special guests like Christina Ricci sometimes drop by the station. Another show on Indie103 is “Jonesy’s Jukebox,” hosted by the legendary Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. Indie 103 brings listeners the best in punk, alternative and a range of other great music.
