Ever wonder why “Chip” has always been you’re roommate’s favorite part of any Buff’s sporting event? Does he or she enjoy Disney films such as Fox and the Hound? How about an obsession with stuffed animals or anything plush?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, you may have a “furry” on your hands.
What’s a “furry” you ask? Well, according to LaAlternativePress.com, “the definition of ‘furry’ is, but not limited to, lovers of cartoon characters or ‘funny animals,’ and loosely, fans of anthropomorphic comics like Omaha the Cat Dancer or movies like Feivel Goes West, people who dress up in fur suits and lounge around the house in them, or feel they’re animal spirits trapped in the bodies of humans.”
Occasionally, this personal obsession turns to fetish when a “furry” participates in intercourse with a plush toy or with another “furry” while wearing plush costumes.
“I personally don’t really get too many inquiries about furry-fetish porn, but we do have some,” said Gabi, a manager at Fascinations Superstore on 28th street, who declined to give CP her last name.
Currently, Fascinations carries furry-porn in many of its stores. Most of which is amateur or “gonzo” pornography.
“The most popular of those are the Shane’s World series, they typically feature ‘furries’,” she said.
She wasn’t surprised that people hadn’t asked her about animal/mascot costumes.
“We’re not known for costumes,” she said, but mentioned that customers have asked her about toys and accessories for role-play.
Students had a different take on ‘furverts’, or those who engage in the fetish.
“I had always dismissed it as some sort of sick joke, not reality,” said Anna Polovin, a junior sociology major.
Their disgust was shadowed by slight interest. Many had recalled seeing “furries” on television.
MTV couldn’t help but wonder what this lifestyle was like for those who live it. According to Wikipedia, the reality show, “MTV: Sex 2K,” featured stories of real-life “furries.”
Proof of the myth? Maybe, but whatever fetish you’re into, making sure that things are consensual between partners will keep things kinky and fun for all — including that teddy bear on your bed.
“I think that any sexually activity that is protected, consensual and mutual pleasurable is great,” said Jonna Fleming, sexual health education coordinator at Wardenburg.
Students agreed.
“Where would the fun be if only one of you (consenting partners) wanted to dress up as a large fox?” Polovin said.
Safety precautions such as avoiding fire (cigarettes) when engaging in sex while wearing faux fur and/or plush are recommended, most plush-toys and/or suits contain acrylic fibers which are extremely flammable.
Other concerns are allergies to dye in the fabric and asthma attacks.
