Every weekend in the city of Boulder, CU students flood the Hill and Pearl Street in search of bars, parties and good times.
The following mornings can prove to be harrowing hangover experiences for even the most seasoned partier. One good cure to a hangover is a hearty breakfast that will help to clean the cobwebs from the brain. The Buff Restaurant, located on 1725 28th St., is a great place to find such a meal.
The restaurant has a nice, homey feeling, as if it is grandmother’s house. Upon entering the establishment, guests are promptly greeted and told how long the wait will be a by a friendly host whose warm smiles brighten up even the most dreary mornings.
Upon being seated, guests are served water in mason jars, or they can choose to have fresh-squeezed orange juice or 99-cent Bloody Marys or mimosas. The menu itself is a mixture of old classics – like bacon and eggs – and fare with more of a southwestern kick, like huevos rancheros. The restaurant also offers brunch items like paninis, soups and salads.
A personal favorite is the Ole Skillet, which has chorizo, green chilies, onions, potatoes and blended cheddar topped with green chili. Two eggs are topped onto this with a side of sourdough bread. The meals are served within seven minutes of ordering and are always hot and fresh. The bread is awesome, too. The service is impeccable, fast, friendly and knowledgeable.
The restaurant was opened in 1995 by Christopher Meyer and Jaquelyn Sproul, and it has quickly become a staple of the Boulder breakfast scene; it has won a Best of Boulder award. A whole meal can be had for $10 to $15 including tip, which is a great deal considering how good the food tastes. For a groggy morning breakfast, it’s hard to beat The Buff.
