With arrival of Election Day, students scurried to the polls to cast their votes on marriage, pot and the gubernatorial candidates.
Many appeared to side with the Democrats, but a few students voted more conservatively.
Here’s what some student voters at the Boulder High School and University Hill Elementary School polling stations had to say:
“The vote for governor was Bill Ritter. I like him a lot better than I like the other guy. For Congress I really don’t like any of them. There is just so much mudslinging this term, who knows what they will be like when they get up there. Also, I don’t see a point to have a legal system for homosexual couples to have a legal right. They can already have this through a power of attorney that doesn’t belong in the Constitution. As far as the pot amendment, if it passes they should have it taxed like alcohol.” — Zak Beach, senior civil engineering major
“I’m planning on voting Democrat across the board unless there is a green party, and then I’ll vote for them. I will definitely vote yes on Amendment 44.” — Heidi Crespi, freshman environmental design major.
“I am planning on voting pretty much Democratic across the board. The unfamiliar amendments I don’t think will pass because we haven’t heard a lot about them.” — Ian Hunt, senior political science major.
“I voted fully Democratic on everything except for the judges because I had no idea. However I did vote no on Referendum I.” — Grant Kleinwachter, senior business management major.
“I voted mostly Libertarian, and Republican if it wasn’t an option. I voted against Referendum I. I don’t see why the government should be involved in our personal lives.” — Ashley Neumann, sophomore political science and economic major.
“I voted Bill Ritter and yes on 44 because I’ll be 21 soon and I don’t see why I wouldn’t vote for it.” — Jodi Feigenbaum, sophomore psychology major.
