The CU men’s rugby team took on the University of Utah in the first round of the National Sweet 16 tournament, which is nothing new for the Buffs.

As the end of the school year approaches, multiple senior CU football players are preparing to enter the NFL draft. Senior place kicker Kevin Eberhart, however, is preparing to go to Houston to work for Lockheed Martin Corp. at the Johnson Space Center.

Spring football will end Saturday with the annual Spring Game, and coaches said that while there have been improvements, the team still has a long way to go on the offense. Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said rising sophomore wide receiver Josh Smith, who was second on the team in receiving yards last season, has been showing promise at spring practices.

Smack in the middle of spring practice, the CU men’s basketball team is eagerly preparing for the opportunity next season presents for them to improve on their 12-20 record from last season.

Good things come in threes, or at least they do for the CU club swim team. After nearly tripling the score of the second place team at the American Swimming Association University League National Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., last weekend, Colorado grabbed its third consecutive national swim title.

Even though every sport differs greatly from the next, there is one common bond that ties them all together: rankings. The same can be said for the Colorado club lacrosse team. It is currently ranked No. 16 out of nearly 200 teams in the latest Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association poll, which was released April 9. The Buffs dropped from No. 12 in the previous poll, and they were ranked within the top 10 earlier this season.

It has been an interesting spring practice session for sophomores Nate Solder and Kai Maiava, both of whom have been trying to adjust to playing unfamiliar positions.

Game One of the World Series “Pool Play” has yet to begin, and already the Buffs’ club softball team is behind.

The pitching staff for the CU baseball team has played the “x-factor” role in the team’s early season success. Led by Matt Degraaf and Patrick Comly, the Buffs’ pitching staff has greatly improved from a year ago.

The Buffs went into Greeley last Saturday and Sunday and swept the Bears of the University of Northern Colorado in a three-game set.
