With April 20th only a couple of weeks away, the CU administration and student government are beginning to prepare the campus for the ban that has been placed on this year’s event.
A CUSG resolution passed last semester will prevent the famous annual Norlin Quad gathering. An email sent out to students by administrators and CUSG vice president Carly Robinson warns “those not affiliated with CU-Boulder” to “avoid the campus entirely” that day, and details the repercussions of marijuana and alcohol use, including tickets, fines and being publicly posted on the CU Police Department’s crime log.
Security from CUPD, the Boulder Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol will be enhanced from last year at the requests of the university.
“The bill [for security] last year came to $55,000,” Ryan Huff, spokesperson for CUPD, said. “I would expect this number to be quite a bit more. There will be a larger police presence.”
Huff said that they won’t disclose detailed information regarding their plans for the 20th, but that “anyone on campus will see a difference.”
For students without afternoon classes, a free concert sponsored by CUSG featuring hip-hop and reggae musician Wyclef Jean will be held in the Coors Event Center from 4-6 p.m.
