CU is helping students find summer jobs and internships with a campus wide fair.
The UMC Ballroom was full of young adults, dressed professionally with smiles on their faces and their resumes ready on Wednesday as CU Career Services hosted a job and internship fair. The event was open to all CU students and alumni who were looking for an upcoming full-time job or internship.
The CU Career Services website encouraged CU students to attend the event whether or not their specific major met the needs of the employers that were listed to attend. The website deemed this event the “Just In Time Hiring and Internship Fair.”
There were a variety of different job positions looking to be filled, from many areas such as: technology engineers, software specialists, newsroom assistant, and advertising sales representative.
Aaron Ramsey, a 20-year-old junior business management major, said he attended the fair in hopes to find his first internship.
“I really would like to get an internship in banking for this summer,” Ramsey said.
Alex Reedy is a 22-year-old majoring in finance and pursuing a real estate certificate. Reedy is graduating this coming May, and attended the job fair as an intern recruiter. Reedy said he was helping his current employer, Formations, LLC Real Estate Co. to find a potential Research Analyst intern for summer of 2011.
“Our company just found out about the CU job fairs and as a company, we decided that it would be in our best interest to give it a try,” Reedy said. “We had a great turn out and got a few confirmations for our potential intern informational meeting that we’ll be having next week.”
Holly Atkinson, a 20-year-old sophomore environmental engineering major, said she attended the job fair in order to find a summer internship. Atkinson said she was surprised that many of the internship positions that were being offered had little to nothing to do with her major.
“While there were plenty of engineer-based job opportunities there, I wasn’t able to find any that were also based around the environmental aspect of engineering,” Atkinson said. “The closest thing I found were energy companies, which isn’t really my focus.”
Along with the seasonal job and internship fairs, the CU Career Services also hosts many career-related events such as resume writing and special career-related workshops, career panels, employer information sessions, and networking events.
