A Metro roadrunner is no match for a raging CU buffalo.
Just ask the members of the Division II Metro State tennis team who lost all nine matches to a recovering Colorado squad Sunday at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver.
CU improves to 2-2 with the victory, while the Buffs hand the Roadrunners their first loss of the season, dropping them to 4-1.
“Tonight we had an opportunity to work on some things and see some of the improvements we have made,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said in a news release.
The set was only the second ever between the two in-state schools, who had their first meeting 31 years prior.
“Metro State is a good D2 team and I wish them the best of luck the remainder of the season,” Kenneally said. “We will now continue to move ahead and take the confidence from this win and get ready for Oregon and New Mexico at home next weekend.”
The Buffs were dominant in all aspects of the meet, taking the doubles point with a score of 8-1 for each match.
Junior Michala Hedelund Jensen paired up with senior Abbie Probert to defeat Metros’ duo of Holm/Amos 8-1, while freshman Carla Manzi Tenorio and freshman Winde Janssens defeated Herrman/Orzalla Nebiyar 8-1. Finally, in her first action of the season, freshman Kristina Barber teamed up with junior Ania Anuszkiewicz to complete the sweep.
The six singles positions were no different as Probert, Hedelund Jensen, Anuszkiewicz, Manzi Tenorio, Janssens and freshman Kristina Schleich all captured victories to ensure a CU win.
The Buffs will look to bring a similar effort in a home match against future Pac-12 foes the Oregon Ducks on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.
