From start to finish, the CU women’s basketball team looked dominant against the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The 12-10 (3-6 Big 12) Buffs started strong from the tipoff, shooting 53.6 percent, and 54 percent from behind the arc in the first half.
Senior Brittany Spears’ 14 points in the first half led the Buffs to a commanding 15 point lead over the Cornhuskers at halftime.
Nebraska only managed to score 24 points to the Buffs’ 39 at the half, shooting only 30 percent from the field.
Despite what appeared to be a comeback at the beginning of the second half, the lady Buffs maintained a strong lead over Nebraska. Overall, the team finished shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and 48 percent on 3-point attempts to solidify a 70-45 win.
Spears, who ended up posting a game-high 26 points, showed her experience and leadership against a tough Nebraska defense. Teammates Britney Blythe and Chucky Jeffery contributed to the win, putting up nine points each.
This win ends a three-game losing streak for the Buffs since their Jan. 26 loss against Kansas State.
The Buffs plan to bring the momentum with them into their next game against the lady Raiders of Texas Tech Saturday at 4 p.m. in Boulder.
