After Friday’s season opener, the No. 71 University of Colorado women’s tennis team can still say they have never lost to the Air Force Falcons.
The Buffs started off their first match of the season well by winning two of three doubles points. The doubles victories came from sophomore Erin Sanders and junior Ania Anuszkiewicz, who defeated Monreal/Hueffner, 8-4, and freshman Kristina Schleich and Carla Manzi Tenorio, who defeated Cassman/Voight, 8-5.
The CU women then secured the next three singles slots to take a 4-0 lead. In the No.4 spot, Schleich overcame USAFA’s Sarah Cassman, 6-1, 6-1. Sanders, in the No.1 spot for the first time in her collegiate career, defeated Christen Montreal, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Michala Hedelund Jensen defeated Hannah Dake, 7-5, 6-2 in the final match-winning set.
The Buffs take on No.38 Boise State in their first home match of the season on Saturday at The Meadows Club in Boulder. Doubles play begins at 9:00 a.m.
