A difficult Monday swiped the Colorado men’s golf team.
The Buffs finished ninth in the Air Force Falcon-Gene Miranda Invitational at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The Invitational was their first official tournament of the season.
The Division II CU-Colorado Springs team came away with the win, defeating several higher division programs. The winning score was a 3 under 861. The Buffs finished 25 strokes back, and 22-over for the tournament.
Sophomore Pat Wilson led Colorado with a third round score of 70, recording a 222 overall.
The rest of the Buffs struggled as sophomore Derek Fribbs posted a 75 on the day, but still managed to post a 5-over 221 for the tournament. Senior Luke Symons ended his first tournament back from hip surgery in 25th place. Juniors Sebastian Heisele and Kevin Kring tied for 39th with an overall score of 224. Johnny Widmer rounded out Colorado’s scorers with a 227.
Colorado State’s senior Ryan Peterson won the tournament, shooting a 70 for the day, and a 216 for the tournament.
The Buffs now travel home to Erie, Colo. where they will host the inaugural Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational. The tournament tees off next Monday.
