Austin Lewis, a 21-year-old junior psychology major, is facing charges after allegedly approaching a bouncer outside the Goose while holding a knife, according to a recent Boulder Police Department blotter.
Spokeswoman for the Boulder Police Department, Sarah Huntley, said police were dispatched to the Goose at about 12:12 a.m. on Thursday. One of the doormen at the bar told officers that he saw a man inside the patio area who appeared to be very drunk.
Huntley said the doorman ejected the man, Lewis, from the business. Huntley said Lewis proceeded to head west down the sidewalk where a bouncer from the Goose was standing.
“According to the witnesses, the suspect pulled out a knife and walked toward the bouncer, leading the bouncer to believe that he was maybe going to come at him with the knife,” Huntley said.
She said Lewis did not speak to the bouncer, and just kept walking past him still carrying the knife. When police arrived, Lewis was no longer in the area and employees at the Goose gave officers a description of a young man wearing a silver Coors Light jacket and brown work boots.
About an hour and 40 minutes later, an officer saw a man staggering down the sidewalk in the area of 9th and Marine streets, Huntley said. The man matched the description of the suspect. The officer brought Lewis back to the Goose to confirm with employees that he was the man involved in the incident, and then arrested him on charges of felony menacing.
“The D.A. will make a decision about what charges they think are appropriate in this case,” Huntley said. “They’ll file them against him and then he’ll start his court process.”
