A herd is always replenishing.
After the Buffaloes lost sophomore wide receiver Markques Simas due to an indefinite team suspension, Hawkins announced on Saturday the addition of safety Terrel Smith. The high school senior signed a letter of intent during his campus visit.
The 5-foot-11-inch, 185-pound Smith arrives to Boulder from Paterson, N.J.
A senior attending Passaic County Tech High School, he was third-team All-State, first-team All-Passaic County and first team All-Tri County A league during his senior season.
In this final season, he rushed for 1,261 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 117 tackles, 61 of which were solo efforts, in addition to 24 passes broken and three interceptions.
Smith is only the fourth recruit from New Jersey during Hawkins’s tenure, and the second member of the 2010 recruiting class hailing from the Garden State, joining tailback Tony Jones.
Both players saw action against one another, with Jones’ Don Bosco Prep defeating Smiths’ Passaic County Tech in their league matchup.
Smith is interested in majoring in biology at CU, and was an honor roll member at Passaic County Tech High School.
