Buffaloes do not usually thrive in wet, sandy environments.
Or at least that seemed to be the case on Tuesday, as the CU mens golf team was unable to finish within the top 10, asthey settled for a 12th place finish in the inaugural Battle at the Beach golf tournament in Newport Beach, Calif.
The battle saw the No. 83-ranked Buffs shoot a 363 (8 over par) in its best round of the three day tournament, finishing with a score of 1,097 with three strokes left out of nine.
Sophomore Kevin Kring tied for 31st place as the Buffs top individual athlete, rounding out with 216 points. He registered five birdies, eight pars and five bogeys, while junior Michael Imperato shot a season best 1-under 70, closing with a 221 points, enough for a 51st place tie.
Head coach Roy Edwards said the tournament finish was important.
This is a good lesson for us, we shoot four shots lower and we beat three other teams, Edwards said in a news release. Thats an important stat for us, because we have to get to the .500 mark to qualify for the NCAA tournament. We need to start saving those extra shots instead of losing them.
Colorados current record against Division I competitors stands at 35-52 this season.
After a three week break from competition, the Buffs will head to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classic from March 8 through 9.
