The CU Ski Team returns home after a second place finish at the New Mexico Invitational.
With 801 points, the second-ranked Buffs trailed the No. 1 Lobos by 160 points on Saturday.
After the two day competition, the first of which saw a first place finish in the women’s slalom race by junior Katie Hartman on Friday, the Buffs had three athletes finish within the top 10 on the second day of the women’s competition.
Hartman would place eighth in the competition in the second day.
There were no top 10 finishers in the men’s competition, as the highest finisher, freshman Spencer Nelson, placed 12th.
Junior Gabriel Rivas, who placed fifth during Friday’s slalom competition, was disqualified during the Saturday run after he lost a ski, according to a news release.
The freestyle completion was more successful for the Buffs, as senior Matt Gelso finished CU’s top finisher in all competitions for the day, with a fifth place finish in the men’s 10 km freestyle.
Junior Alexa Turzian led the Buffs in the women’s competition, capturing sixth place. Sophomore Eliska Hajkova rounded off at ninth place.
Up next for the Buffs will be the Nevada Invitational, for a two day completion beginning on Feb. 19.
