Head coach Liz Kritza’s construction project for next year’s Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team continues.
Elizabeth Reid from Jefferson College (Miss.) signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday to play for the Buffs in 2010. Reid will transfer from junior college after completing the spring semester.
“The addition of Lizzie to our program in 2010 is a clear step in the right direction in terms of bringing in players with strong athletic ability and the competitive nature that is [required to finding] success in one of the nation’s top conferences,” Kritza said in a news release. “We are very pleased that she will be donning a Buffs’ jersey next season and we share mutually high expectations for her career here at CU.”
Reid is a 5-foot-11 inch outside hitter who hails from London, England. In high school, she was named Most Valuable Player of the London Youth Games at Brokehouse in 2006. Reid is also a member of the British National Team and is training to compete in the 2012 Olympic Games in her hometown.
At Jefferson College, Reid was named a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. She finished her two-year career with 571 kills and 220 blocks in 200 sets played.
“Before I came here [to the U.S.], I was in daily training with my national team,” Reid said in a news release. “I had to make a very important decision if I wanted to stay in the U.K. and focus primarily on the Olympics or do I want to get an education while still trying to better myself on the court. In the end, I thought coming to the U.S. would be the best decision for me in all areas and all I needed to do is find the right place, and I think the University of Colorado will be the best place for me to do that. In 2012, I still aspire to be in the Olympics and then after that, I would like to play pro in Europe for a couple of years.”
Reid will be the seventh recruit Kritza signed for the 2010 class. She joins Emily Alexis, Megan Beckwith, Nichole Lindow, Morgan Tholen, Elysse Richardson and Hannah Walker.
