Sunday
A Boulder man faces charges of unlawful sexual contact after a woman woke up to find him allegedly groping her.
The victim called the police. Officers arrived at the scene Sunday at about 3:30 a.m. to find sophomore psychology major Jared Pinel, 22, asleep with his pants unzipped in the woman’s bedroom, according to a police report.
The officers woke up Pinel, who appeared to be intoxicated. They then learned from him that a friend of victim invited him to a party at the victim’s apartment. Pinel was arrested on suspicion unlawful sexual contact and second-degree burglary.
The victim was “crying and shaking a little bit,” when officers contacted her. She said that she fell asleep in the early hours of Sunday morning and woke up to find Pinel lying in bed next to her. She also accused Pinel of trying putting his hands down her pants and kissing her back.
The woman claimed to have fled to her boyfriend’s house and called police from there.
The woman’s roommate hosted the party the night before, but said that another friend invited Pinel to the party.
According to the police report, Pinel said that people at the party suggested he stay the night. Pinel added that he found a man and woman sleeping in one room, so he moved to the room with only one woman inside and got into her bed.
Pinel was quoted in the police report saying that he “just wanted to sleep,” when asked why he got into the bed. He was also quoted saying, “they always do this,” when asked why his pants were undone.
“Once I was tired I went to be in the beds available…if any inappropriate act were committed while I was asleep then I am very sorry.”
The woman’s roommate said that only her boyfriend was invited to stay the night. The two roommates also stated that they did not know Pinel.
