According to a Boulder Police Department press release, police are investigating a fatal accident.
The accident occurred at 1:45 a.m. on March 30, at the intersection of 28th Street and Jay Road, according to the press release.
A passenger van was headed north on 28th Street when it collided with a milk truck that was turning from Jay Road. The driver of the van, identified as Gerardo Ochoa-Lopez, was killed.
Ochoa-Lopez, police say, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. Boulder Fire Department personnel pulled him from the wreck, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital soon afterward.
A passenger in the van, identified as Samuel Borjon-Caldera, was also hospitalized with “serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.”
The driver of the milk truck, identified as Bryan Heltsley, was treated at the scene for “minor injuries.”
According to the press release, the intersection had to be closed for approximately three hours to allow for investigation and clean-up work, since milk crates and cartons had been thrown from the truck. The intersection has since re-opened.
