CU’s new tri-executives address their goals
The spring UCSU elections have ended, and as the smoke of campaigning cleared, three new tri-executives emerged.
Ryan Biehle, Dustin Farivar and Victoria Garcia have been named the new UCSU tri-executives by popular student vote.
The job description is extensive.
The three students now share the position of student body president, serving as a liaison between students and the administration. This includes negotiating student fees, supporting or battling against different initiatives, and generally promoting student interests on campus.
Aside from what the position entails, the new tri-executives said they have their own unique goals to fulfill while they are in office.
“We have a really ambitious agenda this year,” Biehle said.
All three voiced their ambition to improve communication between UCSU and the student body.
“I really want to focus on communication between UCSU and the student body in general,” Garcia said. “I think there’s quite a disconnect between what students know about UCSU and what’s actually going on.”
UCSU looks to better inform students about student government and what is happening on campus politically. To do so, the new tri-executives are also planning a UCSU monthly newsletter to raise awareness about government issues.
“People need to know who the student government is and what we’re doing,” Biehle said.
The tri-executives approve all student fees allocated to the nearly $34 billion UCSU budget and function to distribute the money toward various centers like the UMC, Wardenburg Health Center and other student organizations.
With this power, the tri-executives said they will strive to protect student fee autonomy, making sure that the student budget stays in the hands of students and their interests instead of going to the administration.
“We need to make sure that all the money stays in the hands of the students, and it’s going toward student interests,” said Farivar.
The new tri-executives said they are up for the challenge and that they are thrilled with their new positions.
“I feel phenomenal,” said Biehle. “I think the students chose the right people to do the job, and we’re not going to let them down.”
