What to wear and how to wear it
Some may say that with every season of new fashion trends, there’s something for everyone. However, it’s important to remember that certain trends are not for everyone.
It is more important to dress for your body type than it is to wear designer clothes. Nothing pains me more than to be walking down the street and seeing a beautifully voluptuous woman that has manipulated her curves into skinny jeans. Everyone can be stylish and look great as long as they dress for their own body type.
Empire Waist
Empire cut tops or dresses are made so that the waistline is raised above the natural waistline, sometimes as high as just below the bust. This cut is best on slender or small-on-top figures. The empire dress also creates the illusion of length and camouflages a bottom-heavy figure or thick waist.
Women with a large bust should stay away from the empire waist, as it tends to look like a maternity top.
Pencil Skirts
These form fitting chic skirts are not for everyone. They are most flattering for straighter figured women who want to play up their smaller hips and thighs, as pencil skirts draw focus to those areas.
Women who are pear shaped or have larger hips or thighs should not wear pencil skirts. Instead, go for a looser skirt that flows away from your body instead of latching onto it. Women with shorter legs should stay away from pencil skirts as well, as they shorten your legs even more. Go for a skirt that hits above the knee in order to lengthen your legs.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are much like pencil skirts in that they draw attention to hips and thighs. Skinny jeans are most flattering on long and lean women. This goes for leggings as well.
Once again, women who are pear shaped or have larger hips or thighs should veer away from skinny jeans as they draw attention to the larger areas. Instead, go for a flared jean or the new “in” wide leg pant.
Accessories
For fall, long necklaces are still “in.” However, stay away from the big chunky jewelry and opt instead for a more delicate, layered look. Bangles, headbands and cocktail rings are great accessories to dress up any outfit.
Bags and sunglasses are still oversized but be careful. Even though your skin does need UV protection, you don’t want your face to be overcome by bug-like glasses. You also don’t want a bag so big it takes 30 minutes to find your car keys.
Fabric belts
The embroidered belts from the bohemian trend have been replaced with thick leather belts, sometimes with large buckles. No longer caught on the hips, this fall the belts are firmly anchored at the waist, adding shape to the layered look. These belts generally look great on everyone – they slim the waist of voluptuous women and accent a petite figure.
This fall there are trends for everyone, but what matters the most is dressing to fit and accentuate the specific feature of your body. You’ll feel better, look better and gain more confidence.
