Annie Sullivan is no ordinary sorority girl. She also happens to be a professional skateboarder.
The sophomore pre-journalism major plans to go into advertising and marketing. While she’s not studying, she is performing in skateboarding demonstrations around the metro area.
On Oct. 12th, Sullivan skated with a group called “Boarders for Breast Cancer” in Denver. All of the event’s proceeds went to breast cancer research.
“It was one of the first demos I’ve done in Denver,” Sullivan said. “It was fun to skate for a good cause.”
Sullivan comes from San Diego, which she describes as the mecca of action sports. She describes Denver as being a lot more low-key and not quite as intense.
“The whole skate scene in Denver is totally different,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan doesn’t just skate, but came to Colorado for the snowboarding and grew up surfing. She doesn’t just skate at demos, but carries her board around with her all the time.
“It’s a lot more fun than walking, and faster,” she said.
So what appeal did she see in sorority life?
“I just wanted to meet new people and have something to do all the time,” Sullivan said. “And to get more involved with CU.”
Sullivan’s sorority sisters in Alpha Chi Omega had nothing but positive things to say about her.
“She doesn’t have an enemy,” said Molly Barfield. “She doesn’t even have a bad quality.”
Another sister, Jenny Pepper, described her as laid back.
“She’s awesome to live with,” Pepper said.
Back home, Sullivan said she mostly hung out with guys, none of whom know she’s in a sorority.
“It’s my secret life no one knows,” Sullivan said.
