Boulder cookie monsters know where it’s at
Chocolate chips and the cookie — a simple recipe for success. There are tons of restaurants in Boulder that boast they can dish out the best chocolate chip cookie, but which are the best?
After narrowing down Boulder’s finest, the top three choices I found were Shamane’s Bake Shoppe, Old Chicago and Boulder Baked.
Shamane’s Bake Shoppe
The bakery’s owner, Shamane Simmons, founded the bakery in April 2004.
The Bake Shoppe offers many delicious international baked goods. Simmons has traveled to India, Thailand and Nepal.
Shamane’s chocolate chip cookie is warm, gooey and completely lovely.
“Our cookie is about 70 percent bittersweet chocolate. It’s made with eggs, flour, milk, brown sugar and a secret ingredient,” said Simmons. “Also they are a tad salty, which makes them different.”
Old Chicago
Old Chicago on the Pearl Street Mall is generally known for its American-style food and beer. However, Old Chicago’s Famous Big Cookie, for $4.75, is one of the best in Boulder.
The steaming hot cookie arrives with ice cream, if you choose a la mode, and a pie cutter. This cookie is big enough for a large group of people to enjoy.
“They are homemade and fresh every day,” said Old Chicago server Josh Grote.
Boulder Baked
The dessert shop on the Hill is a CU favorite.
Boulder Baked offers a variety of cookie options including Double Chocolate Chunk, Sugar, M&M, Hawaiian, Heath Nut, Snickerdoodle and more.
The chocolate chip cookie will always be the original. Each cookie is only 99 cents each, and a half dozen is $5.75.
