It’s not often that a tight end will lead a team in receiving yards and touchdowns. So when a team’s tight end is the leading receiver, he has to be a special player.
If there is one position on offense where the Buffs will be solid at this upcoming season, it is at tight end.
Last season, tight end Riar Geer led the Buffs with 261 receiving yards and three touchdowns as a freshman. Now a sophomore, Geer spoke about his personal accomplishments after a team scrimmage last Saturday.
“It was pretty cool for me being a freshman and having that success. I think it was out shadowed by our 2-10 season though,” Geer said.
Geer had two big performances last season. The first came against Georgia where Geer had seven receptions for 71 yards. Geer recorded four receptions, 46 yards and a touchdown in CU’s first victory last season against Texas Tech.
In high school, the 6-foot-3-inch Geer was named to the first-team all-state and was an All Colorado selection by The Denver Post. But the transition to the Big 12 Conference was a bit of a challenge at first for Geer.
“I think the biggest thing that I learned from last year would have to be toughness and just the whole mental game,” Geer said.
He also said that most players are prepared physically for college football, but the mental aspect of the game is what throws a lot of players off.
The Big 12 Conference is one of the best in college football, so playing in it has been an awesome experience, Geer said.
“It’s such a prestigious conference. It’s awesome. Every time you walk on the field you get butterflies and you know you are going against the best of the best,” Geer said.
