Last year:
Polumbus started all 12 games last season for Colorado at the offensive tackle position. He led the offensive line in plays from scrimmage at 715. Polumbus was Colorado’s most consistent offensive lineman last season along with departed senior Brian Daniels. At 6-foot-8, 290 pounds, Polumbus is CU’s most physically imposing lineman.
Tyler Polumbus
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 290 pounds
Position: offensive tackle
Hometown: Englewood, Co
Experience: 3 letters
This year:
Polumbus enters spring ball as one of only six healthy offensive linemen currently on the team’s roster. New offensive line coach Jeff Grimes will look to Polumbus to be the leader of a line that lost three main contributors from the fall. The senior-to-be has gotten more and more dominant as he has progressed during his time on campus. He is big, physical and a force at the tackle position. Help will arrive in the fall as far as numbers are concerned with the line, but look for Polumbus to be the unit’s leader next season.
From the player:
On stepping into a leadership role this spring and coming fall: “Yeah, I like to think of myself as a leader. I think all of us are at the same level but I like to think that way.”
On adjusting to new offensive line Coach Jeff Grimes: “It’s not too tough. Him and (former coach) Chris Strausser have similar styles and are really good teachers.”
On cautions the coaching staff has taken with only six offensive linemen participating in spring ball: “We’ll see, we’re not in pads yet. Once we throw on the pads, they’ll split the team periods up so we go the same amount of plays but for a shorter amount time. I think that’s how they plan on keeping us rested.”
On what he looks to get out of spring ball: “When you lose three guys that all played a lot you have to work on getting that chemistry down. Chemistry is the most important part of an offensive line so we have to work on that. Individually, I want to be more dominant in every phase. I never want to get beat.”
