Fights pollute the weekend: police respond to another bias-motivated brawl
March 8
- A 21-year-old Boulder man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence-related violation of a protection order. Officers contacted the man for a traffic violation and found the victim in the car with him.
- An 18-year-old Broomfield man was arrested on suspicion of possession of more than eight ounces of marijuana (a class 5 felony), intent to distribute marijuana (a class 4 felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was contacted for a traffic violation. Officers found a large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, along with more than $9,000 in cash.
March 9
- Officers responded to a fight at The Walrus, 1911 11th St. When officers arrived, they found two wounded men. A 22-year-old man had been struck in the face and a 23-year-old man had been struck over the head with a pool cue. Although both only suffered minor injuries, the use of the pool cue elevates this to a second-degree assault. Police are continuing their follow-up, and no arrests have yet been made.
- Officers came upon a fight in the street at 8th and University. One man was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and another for brawling related to this incident. Police are seeking a suspect in the assault of another man as well.
- A man was summonsed for brawling and obstructing a police officer after police came upon a fight near Pennsylvania Avenue and Broadway. One of the men ran from the officer but was apprehended.
March 10
- A man involved in a shoving match over a cab near 11th and Pearl streets was admitted to the hospital after previously being treated and released. Police are looking for the second man involved in the shoving match, who left the scene prior to officers arriving. The man is described as white and about 6 feet tall with sandy-blond hair. He was last seen wearing a blue pinstriped shirt and shorts.
- A 46-year-old Boulder woman was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault after a man reported to police that she struck him in the head near the area of 16th and Pearl streets. After officers contacted her in her vehicle, she was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, violating a restraining order and violating her bond conditions.
March 11
- A 40-year-old Boulder woman was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal mischief after police were called to the 500 block of Union Avenue on a report of damaged trees. Eight Chinese maple trees at that location had been reportedly cut from 24 feet to approximately 8 feet tall. The suspect told police the trees were hanging into her yard.
- Police were dispatched to a fight in progress at about 12:30 a.m. in the area of 10th and Pearl streets where a 23-year-old victim told police he had been walking in the area with his arm around a 19-year-old male friend when some men behind them began making derogatory comments about their sexuality. The victim said he ignored the first comment he believed to be directed at him, but then turned to confront the men after a second comment was made. He then said there was a short verbal exchange before one of the men came up and pushed him, and they began fighting. He said the fight continued between him and the two men until he was able to punch one and stand up to separate himself from them. Police arrived shortly thereafter. Police arrested two men in this case. Adam Perez, 21, of Boulder was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and bias-motivated crimes. Eric Schorling, 21, of Boulder was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault, bias-motivated crimes and felony criminal mischief. Both men were booked at the Boulder County Jail.
CUPD Blotter
March 8
- Criminal Mischief at Sewall Hall was reported. Staff members at Sewall Hall called police because they found a pool table in the building lounge turned upside-down. The pool table had been broken in many places, and there were footprints on the bottom side.
- Addie L. Jenkins (DOB 6/6/1985) was arrested on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, drove vehicle without driver’s license on person and drove wrong way on a one-way street. Officers were driving at 28th and Baseline when they witnessed a vehicle driving the wrong way on the U.S. 36 exit ramp.
March 9
- CU student Jeffrey R. Huxsaw (DOB 3/8/1986) was arrested for resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, disorderly conduct, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana and consumption of alcohol in a public place. Officers were at Broadway and Marine talking with three individuals on an unrelated matter when Huxsaw walked near them with an open Captain Morgan’s container. Huxsaw then verbally assaulted the officers while they were watching him.
March 10
- CU student Fritz G. Singer (DOB 6/5/1988) was issued a summons for public urination after being contacted near College and Broadway. Officers were in the area when they saw Singer urinating on the wall in the underpass. Officers told the suspect to halt, and he walked away from them quickly.
March 11
- Stephen M. Pals (DOB 9/16/1952) was issued a summons for trespassing after being contacted at the UMC. Pals had been kicked out of the UMC two days prior. A UMC employee saw him and alerted officers that he had returned.
- CU student Nicole M. Ries (DOB 6/21/1988) was issued a summons for yield to pedestrian required after being contacted near 18th and Broadway. The driver of the vehicle was returning from a dance club in Denver when she was involved in a near-collision with a bicyclist. She said she didn’t see any cyclists in the area.
