7:55 remains in second quarter
DiLallo’s punt to begin the second quarter was a booming kick that sailed 73 yards to pin the Rams inside their own 20-yard line.
The first play of the Rams’ ensuing possession was a completion to Ram receiver Damon Morton. Morton fumbled the ball after getting hit by Buffs’ sophomore linebacker Marcus Burton. The ball was picked up by Wheatley for the first turnover of the game.
The Buffs’ next possesion resulted in a Mason Crosby 40-yard field goal after CU’s junior running back Hugh Charles gained 8 yards; Ellis lost 5 yards on the next carry; and Cox entered the game to throw an incompletion. The field goal put the Buffs up 10-7 with 12:41 left in the second quarter.
The Rams’ next drive was derailed by senior defensive end Abraham Wright. He sacked Hanie for a 16-yard loss and the Rams were unable to garner a first down and were forced to punt.
The Buffs next series began with a Jackson draw play and Jackson fumbling the ball after being hit by Ram defensive end Bob Vomhof. The ball appeared to be recovered by CSU, with the referee signaling the Rams had gained possession. The referees changed the call. Saying the Buffs recovered the fumble, and due to the discrepancy, the play went upstairs to the replay booth.
The replay confirmed CU had recovered the fumble, but it proved to be inconsequential since the Buffs were forced to punt.
