A change in location to Denver plus a disappointing start to the CU football season has students across campus talking about the upcoming Rocky Mountain Showdown.
Some CU students are hoping the Buffs will take the win on Saturday’s Invesco Field game against rival CSU, but do not seem enthusiastic because of the unexpected loss to Montana State last week.
“After last week’s game, I think CSU will win, but we’ll have to see,” said Chris Alfano, a sophomore anthropology major. “Hopefully, CU will win.”
The Buffs have beat CSU in previous years, but this year the odds are not so great, some students say.
“I’m going to have to say CU (will win), but honestly, CSU looked good in their first game,” said Scott Hallock, a sophomore business major. “I’m pulling for CU, obviously, but I think it’ll be a rough game.”
Students flocked to the annual football game against the Rams in previous years, but this year the game is being held in Denver at Invesco Field.
“I’m going to (rent) busses with my fraternity. We got two busses and we are bringing about 30 other (students) along,” said Hallock.
Students planning on going to the game have a variety of transportation options, including RTD busses, rail transit, and carpooling.
“If we lose this game, we won’t be mentioned on ESPN for the rest of the year. If we don’t win this game we’re in some big trouble,” said Hallock.
“This is the biggest CSU game we have ever played because in the past, (the game has) been bigger for them, and this year (the game is) bigger for us,” he said.
