After the University of Colorado hired Mike MacIntyre to fill the place of head football coach Jon Embree, MacIntyre has started to hire his own staff.
Six of MacIntyre’s assistant coaches from San Jose State are joining him in Colorado. Kent Baer, Brian Lindgren, Klayton Adams, Gary Bernardi, Charles Clark and Jim Jeffcoat are set to become a part of the Buffalo staff.
Most of his choices have been on his staff for two or more seasons.
MacIntyre is hoping to have the three remaining assistant positions filled soon. There are spots left for a coach for the running backs, wide receivers and another defensive coach.
Baer was MacIntyre’s defensive coordinator at San Jose State and will continue with that, while also coaching the linebackers. He has been a defensive coordinator at several schools, including Utah State, Idaho, California, Arizona State, Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington and San Jose State. Last season, his defense only allowed 344.7 yards per game and was 24th in the NCAA.
His coaching strengths are emphasized in his excellence at stopping the run. His team was ranked 19th preventing the run.
Lindgren will continue as the offensive coordinator and will coach the quarterbacks as well. He has only worked one season with MacIntyre. However, that season, San Jose State was able to accomplish 446.2 yards per game, 332.7 passing. They were 32nd overall in offense and 30th for scoring.
Adams will be coaching the tight ends. He has had two years under his belt with MacIntyre, joining the San Jose staff in 2011.
The offensive line will be coached by Bernardi. Three of his total 32 seasons coaching has been with MacIntyre at San Jose State. He also spent time coaching Arizona, Southern California, UCLA, Northern Arizona and UNLV.
Clark will be coaching the secondary. He has been with MacIntyre for five years, the last three years at San Jose State, where he coached the defensive backs. The first two years were spent at Duke where he began as an intern.
Further, the defensive line will be coached by Jeffcoat. Jeffcoat has spent the majority of his coaching career in the National Football League, coaching the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills. He has coached college for five seasons, three spent at the University of Houston and two spent on MacIntyre’s staff at San Jose State.
