The CU women’s soccer team is off to a record-setting start so far this season.
After tying Northwestern University 2-2 on Sunday in Evanston, Ill., the Buffs’ record is 3-0-2. It’s the best start to a women’s soccer season in school history, as the Buffs have never been undefeated through their first five games.

Under new head coach Danny Sanchez, the Buffs have shown their strength in early non-conference matchups, including wins against Northern Colorado, Long Island University, Brooklyn and Wright State University and a tie against Colorado College.
With their game against Northwestern on Sunday, the Buffs showed they can rally.
CU didn’t score in the first half, allowing Northwestern to go up 2-0 by halftime, but second-half goals by senior Amy Barczuk and freshman Madison Krauser brought the final score to a 2-2 tie. Krauser’s goal was her first in a CU uniform. Junior goalkeeper Annie Brunner also played well, recording a season-high six saves.
Sanchez said in a news release that he hopes his team will improve its first-half play in upcoming games.
“We’re down 2-0 on the road against a good opponent,” Sanchez told CUBuffs.com. “We faced adversity, but I like how the team responded. We just can’t put ourselves in that position.”
The Buffs compete next at the DU Invitational in Denver this weekend. Colorado will take on the University of Denver at 7 p.m. on Friday and the University of Cincinnati at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The team has almost a month to brush up before entering conference play, as CU’s first Pac-12 matchup doesn’t come until Sept. 21 against Oregon University.
