Two fires that occurred on campus over spring break are believed to be arson, according to a CU Police Department press release.
On the morning of March 27, a custodial crew found burnt newspaper inside the ATLAS Building. The small fire, likely lit near the northeast entrance of the building, didn’t cause any damage.
The second fire was discovered at 5:45 a.m. April 1, the same time as the previous incident five days earlier. Flames were spotted at the side of the Education Building and were extinguished quickly by a Police Department safety official.
The Boulder Fire Department was notified and put out the remainder of the smoldering debris, which was in a 10-foot-long by 4-foot-wide area consisting of burnt newspapers, bottles and magazines.
The damage of the second fire is estimated to cost about $800, for repairs to the 8-foot-wide burns on the side of the east wall of the Education Building and a broken window.
