When firefighters arrived, they evacuated the sorority’s house mother, a dog and a cat, said Chris Moore, 22, a Boulder resident who first noticed the fire and called the fire department around 9:20 p.m.
“I was smoking a cigarette on my porch at 13th and Grandview when I smelled smoke and saw the whole place was on fire,” Moore said.
Fire Chief of the Boulder Fire Department, Larry Donner said there were no injuries caused by the fire.
“The good news is we have the fire contained,” Donner said. “The bad news is it will take a while to find the cause.”
Donner said firefighters won’t be able to find the cause until after the sun rises.
The fire occurred in the attic, above the third floor, Donner said, causing firefighters to enter through the roof. The attic is the only floor not covered by the house’s automatic sprinkler system, according to a Boulder city press release.
Thirty firefighters were on the scene, and one was was taken to the hospital for a sprained ankle, according to the release.
The damage of the fire remains unknown while investigations continue.
