CU football players investigated for vandalism

Three CU football players are being investigated for a vandalism incident that occurred in Denver.

Bryce Givens, a sophomore offensive lineman, was caught on camera kicking three cars in a private parking garage just past 3 a.m. last Saturday, according to the Denver Post. Reportedly with him was Will Pericak, a defensive tackle, and Eric Richter, an offensive guard.

The Denver Police Department report stated that the vandalism occurred after the group was turned away from a party in Denver.

“The males apparently became angry and as they left the building, they kicked and punched the elevator, possibly breaking the lights and causing the elevator to malfunction,” according to the report. “The males then entered the parking garage. The first male exited the elevator and kicked the victim’s 2007 BMW vehicle. … The same male suspect also kicked two more vehicles before exiting the garage.”

CU spokesperson Bronson Hilliard said no charges were placed against the players.

“There was no arrest and no charges,” Hilliard said. “There was financial restitution. The players have reached out to the victims and they apologized.”

John Embree, newly appointed head coach of the Buffs, issued a statement Friday concerning the incident.

“I am in the process of meeting with all of the players involved in this incident,” Embree said. “I understand that they have met with the victims and have offered apologies and restitution, and while that is appropriate, they will also face team and university sanctions.”

He also said this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

“I am serving notice to every current and future member of our team that I will not excuse off-the-field conduct that involves violence, vandalism, or any actions that dishonor this university or this program,” he said.
