CU-Boulder Police are searching for leads in an armed robbery investigation.
The robbery occurred at Newton Court Graduate and Family Housing Complex on CU’s East Campus in the early hours of Sept. 30th, according to a CUPD news release.
The burglary took place around 1:45 a.m. in the housing complex, when the occupant opened his door and three suspects forced their way in and demanded prescription drugs, according to the release.
The man was threatened at knifepoint and the suspects succeeded in taking the medications.
CUPD Public Information Officer Molly Bosley said crimes like this one are rare.
“They are a very rare occurrence at the university,” Bosley said.
She also stated that Newton Court is generally very safe with no history of crimes.
According to the news release, the victim opened his door expecting an acquaintance, who arrived with the two other suspects.
“We do know that the victim was expecting an acquaintance and that is the acquaintance that showed up,” Bosley said. “At least one suspect is known to the victim.”
Bosley said that the case is under investigation and in response CUPD is still actively patrolling the campus to ensure safety. She said that it is not unusual for crimes to occur this time of the year.
“We see a large number of crimes at the beginning of the academic year,” she said. “It is not unusual to see events happen more often in the fall.”
