It’s a two-man show so far for the CU men’s golf team.
The Colorado Buffaloes are tied for second with the help of senior Justin Bardgett and sophomore Sebastian Heisele after the first day at the 8th Annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Monday in Scottsdale, Ariz. Bardgett is currently tied for fifth with a 3-under 67 while Heisele is tied for seventh with a 2-under 68.
Second round play was suspended due to darkness with four of CU’s golfers having two more holes to play and one with three more.
UC-Santa Barbara leads the tournament with 275 points while the Buffs are only four behind with 279 points. Rounding out the top five for team scores are Oklahoma (279), Old Dominion (281), and San Diego (281).
“If we can rally a bit and pick up a couple of strokes as we finish the second round, and then play well in the third round, I think we’ll have a chance,” said CU head coach Roy Edwards in a news release. “It’s kind of hard to gauge exactly where we are since we don’t know who are what the leaders are doing. A few teams were done and will shoot a little lower than us, but I sense we’re pretty close.”
Freshman Derek Fribbs is tied for 36th with 4-over 71 for the Buffaloes, while junior Michael Imperato is tied for 58ths with a 4-over 73 and sophomore Kevin Kring is tied for 112th with a 2-over 78.
The Buffs will finish the second round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. while the third round will begin at 9:30 a.m.
