A case of second-degree assault for which a CU student has been arrested will be reviewed by the district attorney, according to Sarah Huntley, Boulder Police Department public information officer.
According to the Boulder Police Department blotter a 22-year-old Boulder man was arrested Saturday on a charge of second-degree assault.
Huntley identified the suspect as Richard Bastar IV, who is a senior chemical engineering major at CU. The victim, Tyler Bussell, is a junior biochemistry major.
Around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday near the 1900 block of Broadway, Bastar put Bussell in a chokehold after a verbal dispute in Boulder Baked escalated, Huntley said.
“We talked to the suspect who acknowledged put him in a chokehold because he was afraid that the victim would start throwing punches,” Huntley said.
According to the blotter, Bussell said he became unconscious for a short period of time.
