Review: Chinese restaurants in Boulder

In Boulder, it seems there is a Chinese restaurant on every block. However, out-of-state students wouldn’t regard Boulder as a Mecca for Chinese food.

Jade Marquec, a 20-year-old sophomore psychology major, said that she doesn’t eat Chinese food in Boulder.

“Thai food is better here,” Marquec said. “I’m from Michigan and there, [Chinese food] is better because it’s more greasy.”

So where’s a safe bet for Chinese food in Boulder?

K’s China: Best lunch deal.

Located on the Hill at 1325 Broadway, K’s China is worth the search. K’s is delicious and has good lunch specials for $5.25: an entrée, rice and soup or an eggroll.

At dinner, the restaurant is often crowded with 21-year-olds drinking at the bar or eating on the roof.

Kandice Martellaro, a 21-year-old film production junior, went to K’s for dinner with a group of her friends.

“It’s not bad,” Martellaro said. “They could be a little more efficient.”

Lunch at K’s is slow, making it a good spot to grab a quick meal.

Tra Ling’s: Quick and cheap.

Though the food isn’t the best at Tra Ling’s students say, it stays open until 2:30 a.m. and is the fastest Chinese restaurant in Boulder.

At 1305 Broadway on the Hill, it’s easy to get to.

Adam Ladwig, a 21-year-old senior broadcast news major, said he goes there about once every couple of months for fried rice, sesame chicken and crab cheese wantons.

“I think it’s a great place, especially if you have had a few [drinks],” Ladwig said. “Plus it’s great that it’s open late and quick.”

At Tra Ling’s, a meal can be had for as little as $5 and never gets more expensive than $10.

Golden Lotus: A great atmosphere.

At 28^th and Walnut is the Golden Lotus, a Chinese restaurant that’s a little pricier, but has a great atmosphere. Golden Lotus is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10:30 p.m.

Rusan said he enjoys Golden Lotus’ quiet atmosphere, but that the food isn’t spectacular.

“Golden Lotus was a nice place, the food wasn’t amazing, but it was not bad,” Rusan said.

Golden Lotus charges about $7 to $15 per meal. Specials include rice, an entree, soup and appetizers for $10 to $15. It’s big enough to feed two.
