Getting off to a good start on the road hasn’t equated to a lot of wins for the Colorado men’s basketball team recently, but at least they’ve been competitive in such games.
It’s a lot better than they’ve performed in games where they’ve fallen into a hole early on, especially against the team from the Show-Me State.
The Tigers got off to a quick 21-6 start and didn’t look back, leaving CU in the rear-view mirror with a 92-63 victory in Columbia Wednesday night.
Sophomore Marcus Denmon led Missouri (21-7, 9-4 Big 12) with 21 points off the bench, and senior J.T. Tiller added 10 points and nine assists for the Tigers, who took a 48-32 lead into the half and built upon it in the second half.
The Tigers shot 58.3 percent from the field and an even more impressive 64.3 percent from 3-point range, and the 29-point margin of victory was the most lopsided of the season for Colorado (12-15, 3-10 Big 12).
Junior Cory Higgins led the Buffaloes with 21 points, while sophomore starters Nate Tomlinson and Austin Dufault were held scoreless.
The closest CU got in the second half was within 14 points, but Mizzou eventually stretched it back out to 20 with their hot shooting, and Denmon’s layup at the 3:26 mark closed the scoring with the deficit at 29.
Colorado returns home for a tough matchup with Iowa State at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Coors Events Center, the first of a double-header with the women’s team taking the court to face Texas A&M in the late game.
