It always helps when you jump your personal best.
CU sophomore James Nixon finished second overall in the pole vault with a height of 16 feet 0.75 inches in his first attempt on Friday at the Air Force Invitational at Cadet Field House at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Nixon’s result makes him the fifth best CU performer in the pole vault, and the best vault since Scott Porter’s mark of 16 feet and 4.75 inches in 1995.
CU sophomore Brianne Beemer won her heat in the 400-meter dash and currently sits fifth overall in the qualifying track event.
In the 800-meter run, freshmen Brooke Regan and Precious Lyons finished fifth and seventh respectively to advance to the next round, while freshman Travis Putnam led the way for CU in the Men’s 800-meter, finishing fifth.
The track and field team will finish the AFA invite on Saturday.
