Eight is enough for the Colorado women’s basketball team.
The Buffaloes (12-5, 2-2 Big 12 Conference) broke an eight-game road losing streak with a 63-57 win over Kansas State (10-8, 2-2) Wednesday at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.
CU’s halftime lead, 30-25, was its first on the road in Big 12 Conference play since leading 28-23 against Missouri on Jan. 9, 2008. The Buffs won 70-58.
Although CU led by as much as 14 points in the second half, KSU managed to narrow the score to 55-54 with 3:44 left on the clock. However, the Buffs didn’t allow a single K-State field goal in the final 2:48.
Junior forward Brittany Spears and freshman forward Meagan Malcolm-Peck each nailed a pair of free throws in the last 17 seconds of play to seal the win for CU.
Spears led the Buffs with 15 points and nine rebounds while Malcolm-Peck’s two free throws were her only points of the night.
The Buffaloes return home to face No. 12 Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Coors Events Center.
