She may no longer attend the University of Colorado, but Jenny Barringer is still bringing in awards as a Buff.
Barringer, who graduated last month with a double degree in political science and economics, was named the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame 2009 College Female Athlete of the Year on Tuesday for the second straight season.
The Oviedo, Fla. native is the second CU athlete to achieve the award twice in her career since Shelley Sheetz, when Sheetz won the honor in 1993 and 1995.
In 2009, Barringer set six NCAA and seven school records while also winning the inaugural U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s The Bowerman award last month, which recognizes the most outstanding collegiate track & field athlete.
In the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Barringer represented the U.S. in the steeplechase where she finished as the highest placed American in ninth.
Barringer holds the NCAA record in the steeplechase with a time of nine minutes and 25.54 seconds as well as the CU record of 9:12.50.
This is the second honor for Barringer in 2010. Last week, she was named Mile High Sports Magazine’s College Athlete of the Year.
